New book by Bernadette McCarrick

A book under the title, ‘To Walk in My Native Place,’ has just been reissued by South Sligo native, Bernadette McCarrick. The book is a collection of poems accompanied by a complimentary set of photographs. Bernadette, formerly from Cloonbaniff near Tubbercurry, is now a retired teacher living in Boyle, Co. Roscommon.

Bernadette says , “The idea for a book of poems and photographs came to life in a conversation between my brother Pat and myself which took place a few years ago. We then embarked on the project, having agreed that our work would coalesce around the nucleus of our shared roots in our native place. We envisioned a poetry book, but with photographs that would serve as a backdrop.” Encouraged by having previously published two books, Bernadette envisioned a collaborative effort with camera and pen that would result in a cohesive piece of work. The book brings to fruition what she set out to do, and will appeal to a wide readership at home and abroad.
Many of the poems have a quality of memoir – the narratives of my first experiences of life, of finding my place, my sense of belonging and identity in the midst of family and neighbours, in a small townland.
