Writer to help launch Leitrim diaspora strategy next week
The event will be streamed free online
Leitrim County Council will launch its new Leitrim Diaspora Strategy 2026-2030 on Wednesday, August 5, at Margaret Haughery's Cottage (Margaret of New Orleans) in Carrigallen.
The launch will be livestreamed on the Leitrim County Council Facebook page from 2pm (Irish time), allowing people from Leitrim and friends of the county around the world to view the event.
According to Leitrim County Council, the launch will include a dramatic and musical performance featuring Leitrim Youth Theatre and others, celebrating the life and legacy of Margaret Haughery. The event will also include a specially commissioned reflection by Leitrim writer Michael Harding.
The council said the performances will explore the themes of emigration, heritage, connection and home, which are central to the new Diaspora Strategy.
Leitrim County Council is encouraging organisations and communities with links to the county's diaspora to help promote the launch and share details of the livestream through their own networks.
