Leitrim group plans meeting as fight against wind farm plan heats up

The meeting is open to the public to attend and share their thoughts on the development
The Save Dough Mountain Group have announced a public meeting in opposition to a proposed Lissinagroagh Wind Farm.
The proposed development would see the erection of 14 wind turbine at a height of around 180 metres within a few kilometres of Kiltyclother in North Leitrim.
The call comes as the group announces the hiring of their first expert to help with their objection to the plans following a fundraiser to pay fees.
The fundraiser, held on GoFundMe, blew past its initial goal of €7,000 within three days and currently sits at €8,255 at the time of writing.
The public meeting will take place in the Bee Park Community Centre in Manorhamilton at 8pm on June 18th.
It will include a number of speakers and be followed by a question and answer session.
FuturEnergy Ireland, the company behind the wind farm application, has stressed the role of community engagement in the project and that their application was made following extensive studies from industry experts and environmental specialists.
It also stated that the proposed Lissinagroagh Wind Farm has the potential to produce “local benefits that many community members are keen to see boost the area, including a Community Benefit Fund of an estimated €12.5 million over the lifetime of the project and rates of approximately € 1.2 million to € 1.5 million per annum.
This project would also come with significant employment opportunities and local services supported during construction, secure local energy and a strengthened local electricity grid.”
