Multi-agency night-time rescue after hiker injured in Glencar area

A multi-agency response saw mountain rescue volunteers and paramedics work together to safely evacuate an injured hiker.
A hiker who sustained a head injury after falling while out walking in the Glencar area was rescued during a night-time operation involving multiple emergency services.
The Sligo Leitrim Mountain Rescue Team (SLMRT) was tasked to the incident at 12:06am on Saturday night.
The rescue operation took place in the Glencar area and involved SLMRT, the North West Mountain Rescue Team (NWMRT) and the National Ambulance Service (NAS).
According to SLMRT, team members mobilised immediately and made their way to the location, staging alongside local paramedics.
After the casualty was located and assessed, the terrain required rescuers to set up a technical haul system to carry out a safe extraction.
The casualty was carefully placed into a rescue stretcher, safely hauled up the incline and then handed over to paramedics at the scene for further medical treatment.
In a statement on Facebook, a spokesperson from SLMRT said: “We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the local paramedics for their cooperation on scene. A massive thank you also goes out to our colleagues at North West Mountain Rescue Team - NWMRT who turned out in the early hours to assist us with the evacuation. As always, great teamwork makes these challenging rescues possible.”
