BAF PROGRAMME: Tis nearly time for the start of this years Boyle Arts Festival which will launch on Thursday 25th July and open fully on Friday July 26th continuing until Saturday August 3rd. The programme of events is now available throughout the town and beyond and is bursting at the seams with an eclectic mix of visual arts, music, drama, film, free family events, craft workshops, storytelling, readings and much more. BAF EVENTS: The Dublin Youth Opera Company, a welcome return with ‘Jukebox Opera’ performance in the King House on Friday July 26th. Claudia Boyle, soprano, will perform in the atmospheric surroundings of the Church of Ireland on Monday July 29th. Simon Morgan, acclaimed baritone, will bring his ‘Songs of Travel, Troubadors & Toreadors’ to King House on Thursday August 1st. Michael McHale, renowned Belfast born pianist will play King House on Friday August 2nd. The always popular BAF lunchtime concert series will run throughout the Festival with appearances by the DIT Quintessential Sax Quartet and guitarist Edgar Grunewald. MEMORIES OF YESTERYEAR: Facilitated by Veronica O’Connor, this exhibition will take place in Abbey Haven, Drumderrig and the Plunkett Home daily from 2pm until 5pm on Saturday 27th July until Saturday 3rd August.
THROUGH THE MAGIC LANTERN: Back by popular demand this unique glimpse into the past, as seen through the eyes of local motion picture enthusiasts, will take place in the King House Auditorium on Saturday July 27th at 1pm.
THE CLOCK DRAMA GROUP: Drama in this year’s Boyle Arts Festival include two local groups, The Clock Drama Group presenting ‘Anyone Could Rob A Bank’ on Saturday July 27th while the ever popular Fregoli Theatre Co. unleash their latest work, ‘Let Me Be’ written by Maria Tivnan, on Sunday July 28th and 29th. Catherine Simon’s Drama Works Ireland performs ‘Children of the Black Skirt’ on August 1st and 3rd. And, for something completely different….. Susan Boyle loves wine and she will present her ‘A Wine Goose Chase’ twice, in Daly’s Bar on July 26th. What’s more she knows what she’s drinking and talking about. This hour-long one woman theatrical performance fuses interactive wine tasting with storytelling in a warm intimate setting.
INSPIRATIONAL: A performance of music and photography by David Knight and his father Billy Knight, accompanied by local traditional band “Rakish” (James Wickham, Jim Butler, Tom Gleeson and Jerry Miley) will be taking place on Tuesday 30th July at 9pm in King House. Booking is recommended.
THE ILLUSTRATED BEATLES: This exhibition feature 42 artworks inspired by 42 classic Beatles songs, this exhibition runs daily from 11am until 6pm from Thursday 25th July until Saturday August 3rd.
