Church News: The Annaduff Masses have reverted back to St. Mary’s .Masses in Drumsna continue on Friday at 7pm and Sunday at 9.30am. Friday’s Mass is followed by Exposition of the Blessed Sacrament. Annaduff Parish Gathering: The Parish gathering is living up to it’s name with hundreds of Annaduff natives getting ready to converge on every end of the Parish for the last weekend in July. There is a wonderful menu of Traditional singing , dancing and music, Historical tours etc. The programme is now complete and leaflets and posters have been distributed. The weekend commences on Friday evening July 26th with a ‘’Welcome Home’’ evening in Annaduff G.A.A. Centre with well known singer and songwriter Fionnuala Maxwell as M.C. where the talent of the Parish will be on show. On Saturday morning a bus tour covering the top end of the Parish will take place from 10am until 1pm Please be at the car park by 9.45. This is led by Des Guckian who has published many books of interest, including Fr. Manning, The History of Annaduff G.A.A. The History of Annaduff called The Annals of Annaduff, a few copies of these books will be available on the day. The tour which starts in the car Park of St. Mary’s Church Annaduff includes visits to Co. Leitrim’s tidiest town, Dromod , Derrycarne, St. Ann’s Graveyard and the Abbey grounds together with references to many places in between. The bus costs €5 per head. At 2pm on Saturday afternoon The Francis Lynch Memorial football blitz for National School children takes place, there will be lots of interesting side shows at the pitch including Boxty making demo. On Saturday evening at 8.30pm a Ceili Mor takes place in the G.A.A. centre for young and old, so get the dancing shoes ready. Sunday morning sees ‘’Welcome to the Gathering’’Church Services with Mass in Drumsna at 9.30am, This special Mass will honour Four of our local citizens who are all in their nineties, Mrs Maggie Reilly , Mrs Cissie Reynolds, Mrs Sarah Beirne and Mr. Hughie Guckian. Service in St. Ann’s church of Ireland at 10am with Ruth Waller. Mass in the beautifully refurbished St. Mary’s Annaduff at 11am with Mass also at 7pm where Bishop Colm O’Reilly will bless the Church. Everyone is welcome to attend all or any of the Churches. There will then be a slot of free time until after Lunch on Sunday. At 3.30pm sharp there will a walking tour of the Historical village of Drumsna led by Noel Duignan commencing at the Community Centre on Quay Street. Everyone welcome. Visit the Shannon Quay side, the Shannon side walk at the oldest bridge on the Shannon, the grave of Explorer Thomas Heazle Parke , the Robert Strawbridge Monument, the Inn where novelist Anthony Trollope commenced the writing of the Macdermots of Ballycloran, the Church of the Immaculate Conception with it’s beautiful stained glass windows. The Time Capsule and much more, At the end of the tour there will be a short fun quiz to see how much attention you have paid to Noel’s talk. Patricia O’ Reilly will bring small children on their own magical tour through story and Fairytales also at 3.30 commencing at The Church in Drumsna. Mammies, daddies, big brothers and sisters are all welcome to listen to the story if they are very quiet. (If the weather is unfavourable the centre will be used). At 5pm sharp everyone is invited to the Drumsna Community Centre for a step back in time where locals will re- enact some old time traditions and fun with a short sketch of life in a country farmhouse in the 1920s. We have Jim Gannon as ould John the grandfather and his ailing wife Lizzie played by Kitty Storey. Geraldine Monaghan is Lizzie back from Boston with her American Husband Buddy played by John Fitzgerald, Micheal O Dowd is the genial Fr. Mc Grath and Liam Taylor the wiley Matchmaker, Fionnuala Taylor is the widow Kate with a fine marriageable daughter ‘’Dotie with dowry’’ played by Ann Doyle. (Not the newsreader!) You might even meet the future Rose of Tralee there. Come in time as seating is limited. Light refreshments will be provided afterwards. You will be back up in Annaduff in plenty of time for The Bishops Blessing of St. Mary’s. It’s then on to Duignan’s for a night of social dancing session. Please inform your families and friends of this great weekend where you may meet some one that you have not seen for years.
Annaduff Gathering Tour: Des Guckian who will lead the tour on Saturday morning July 27th wishes to inform all who are interested about the plans that have been drawn up. A 50 seater Mc weeney bus has been booked. All are requested to gather at the car park of St. Mary’s Annaduff (opposite Notley’s Top ‘O the hill ) before 9.45am if possible. A seat costs €5 per person. Booking is on a first come first served basis. Already there is good interest. To book phone Des at 071 96 3897 or email firstname.lastname@example.org. Weather allowing we may have to cross a few fields. Suitable footwear is a must for this. The time is short, so the tour will have to move along quickly, with little time for video recording. Rose of Tralee Function: Drumsna Comhaltas are hosting a special traditional Rose of Tralee function in Mc Loughlins pub Drumsna on Friday night August 2nd. Admission is optional and everyone is welcome. The Leitrim Rose Edwina Guckian has brought great pride and joy to Drumsna and surrounds and is the hard working secretary of Drumsna C.C.E. .Come along and show your support and encouragement for her.

People in the news: Congratulations are extended to the newly appointed Irish Army Sergeant, Joe Regan, Mountcharles, Co. Donegal and formerly of Lavagh, Drumsna on his recent appointment.
