BOXTY FEST: Calling all boxty enthusiasts as a special event to mark the 25th Joe Mooney Summer School we are holding a boxty fest (Saturday July 27th 3 to 5 in town centre). There will be an opportunity to sample Leitrim’s finest boxty. Also a competetion will be held to find the best boxty in Drumshanbo. If you are interested in taking part in the competition you will need to make a plate of boxty and bring for judging on Saturday July 27th. VOLUNTEERS REQUIRED: The annual Joe Mooney summer school will take place between July 20th and July 27th, a week that sees the town of Drumshanbo come alive. Volunteers are needed to help with car parking, tea making, manning doors and many other jobs to help ensure the successful running of the Summer School. Kilclare National School Reunion: A meeting was held in the Sheemore Lounge, Kilclare on Monday June 10th to discuss the possibility of organising a reunion as it is the 120th anniversary of the school opening. A good attendance showed great interest in the project. The next meeting will be held on July 15th at 9pm at the same venue. At this meeting it is hoped to elect a committee to plan the reunion, fundraiser, plan entertainment and research material for a booklet that we hope to comply on the school’s history. We are calling on all past pupils and relatives to lend old photographs or any memorabilia which we can use for the booklet. All material loaned will be returned safely. Now that the idea has been motted, an even better attendance will be appreciated on July 15th.

BUILDING BLITZ PROJECT FUNDRAISER: Come along and enjoy a great nights dancing with prizes galore in The The Lough Allen Hotel, Drumshanbo on Thursday night next, 11th July. Music on the night will be provided by Carmel McLoughlin. The function starts at 9.30 and admission is €10. Please support this worthy cause. All proceeds on the night will be donated to local lads Gerry Quinlan and Gerry Philips who are heading to Kenya later this year to take part in a building blitz project. The lads are part of a three hundred strong group of volunteers who will be involved in building a school as education is the only way forward for the children of Kenya.
