Welcome to Glenfarne: Great Glenfarne welcomes to friends old and new during this special year of “The Gathering”. A fun-packed Schedule of Events for “The 44th Annual Glenfarne Gala Festival – The Glenfarne Gathering” will appear in next week’s Leitrim Observer.
Colours of The Rainbow: The “Rainbow Ballroom of Romance” is the most photographed building on the road between Enniskillen and Sligo. The landmark venue is now getting a colourful revamp and the windows are back! Soon the stone-coloured frontage, green cornerstones and painted, rainbow-coloured signage will be on show. Visitors will have fun photographing the vintage dancehall. Pictures taken on a black and white or sepia setting will bear a striking resemblance to the original 1950s images of the world-famous, iconic ballroom.
Walk on a magical mountain: According to local folk-law, mythological giants once lived on Thur Mountain and Cuilcagh. It’s not surprising that such breathtakingly beautiful landscapes with panoramic views inspired magical stories. A wonderful walk will take place on Thur Mountain on Bank Holiday Monday, 5th August; starting 11am from St Michael’s School, Glenfarne. More details to follow in next week’s paper.
Heritage Night: Confirmation of some of the traditional crafts taking place during “Heritage Night – Night of The Gathering” at The Rainbow on Friday, 2nd August at 8pm include: making bread; making side-stones; hay-rope making; the spinning wheel; handmade vintage, silver and costume jewellery; crochet; art work and more.
Olde Tyme Dance: Due to renovations to the Rainbow Ballroom, Glenfarne: Dances will be held in Kiltyclogher Community Centre until further notice: Olde Tyme & Social Dance will take place on Sunday, 21st July. Dancing to “Country Highways” 9pm. Admission €7, including refreshments. All welcome.
Gala Festival Meeting: There will be a Gala Festival meeting tonight, Wednesday, 17th July at 9pm at Cullentragh Centre. New members are always welcome.
