The Minister for Agriculture has informed local TD, Frank Feighan that he expects that the many farmers whose land was affected following the land slide in 2020 are expected to receive their payments this week on April 7.
The package will provide financial support to those landowners whose agricultural lands were inundated with peat silt and sludge because of the overspill caused by the landslide in the Drumkeeran area on June 28, 2020.
Support will also be provided for fencing and gateways on agricultural land affected by the landslide.
Some farmers will qualify for payments of up to a maximum of €20,000 each.
Deputy Feighan also commended the work done by the inter-agency working group chaired by Minister Malcolm Noonan in the aftermath of the landslide.
“I was happy to attend many of the on-line meetings and indeed glad to see the farmers getting their compensation which I accept took some time however I do want to comment Minister Mc Conalogue who alongside his officials have worked to put in place a decent compensation payment for farmers who naturally were deeply upset following this traumatic landslide nearly three years ago now” concluded Deputy Feighan.
