Bus shelters needed in Drumkeeran and Kinlough

Bus shelters needed in Drumkeeran and Kinlough, says councillors.

Cllr Mary Bohan said she was "disappointed" at the response to her motion which asked about the current position regarding the provision of a bus shelter in Drumkeeran.
A report by the council's Roads office said the initial proposed location proved not suitable, relating to the provision of a bus shelter on the northbound direction of services, and thus "we were unable to procure the bus shelter which was designed for Drumkeeran in 2023."
"Following a number of meetings, we have agreed an alternate location for the bus shelter with the NTA and Local Link, which will be progressed through the approval stages in 2024," the reply continued.

Cllr Bohan said that many people used the bus service and said that "the weather is horrendous and people are getting soaking wet before they get on the bus".

Cathaoirleach, Cllr Justin Warnock, said the shelters provided by the NTA "are not suitable for a lot of streets and definitely not suitable for the main street in Kinlough."

He said he couldn't understand why "they put up monstrosities" that block houses and businesses. "This is going on an awful long time in Kinlough and the inclement weather has been brutal."
