The possibility of opening a tourism office in Manorhamilton will be explored by Leitrim County Council and relevant parties.
At a meeting of Manorhamilton municipal district, Cllr Eddie Mitchell requested support for establishing a tourism office in the town.
He informed members that the W8 Centre has offered to provide office space, and the Manorhamilton Business Forum has identified funding.
“There’s a lot of support there,” Cllr Mitchell said. “There are teams of groups that want to work together to facilitate a tourism office.”
Cllr Gurn noted that the efforts to open a tourism office in Manorhamilton have been ongoing for 10 years.
A response from Economic Development stated, “Leitrim County Council is happy to engage with the respective parties on the details of the proposal.
“An assessment of the proposal must consider the terms and conditions attached to any funding officer, office accommodation details, health and safety matters, all in the context of providing the best Co Leitrim tourism offering.”
The reply further explained that recruiting additional staff is an executive function of the Council and will be considered within the current resource and budgetary framework.
Cllr Mitchell expressed satisfaction with the response.
