Leitrim councillor has asked that the local authority make sure that routes to schools are gritted in the coming weeks to ensure students can travel to and from school safely. 

Cllr Padraig Fallon had raised the topic at the Manorhamilton Municipal District and said some rural schools had to close due to dangerous roads.

Speaking to Oceanfm, he said it was an issue that arises every year that a number of primary schools are not on national and regional routes and are not gritted. "It's about making sure the local authority are aware of them and reminding them and hoping they will grit those locations."
