A local TD for has welcomed the decision to establish a commission of inquiry into historical sex abuse in schools.
Mr Kenny was speaking after the announcement of a commission of investigation into the handling of sexual abuse in schools.
Sligo/Leitrim TD Martin Kenny said; "The Government decision to establish a commission of inquiry into historical sex abuse in schools has to be welcomed. I know of a number of people in my constituency who were abused or affected by historical sex abuse. We are not aware of the full terms or remit of the commission as of yet, but I would hope they go far enough to finding out the truth of what happened in these schools. It should give those victims of abuse the opportunity to tell their story and shed light on what happened in these schools. These victims deserve justice and meaningful redress must be delivered."
