Friday, August 30 was a very important day for one family as it saw the third generation from the family marrying in Clonturk Church.

Although born and bred in Dublin, Eileen McGovern is a regular visitor to Leitrim and she recently exchanged vows with a local Mohill man, following in the footsteps of her mother and grandmother by choosing St Joseph's Clonturk as the place to wed.

Eileen married Paul Beirne, son of Vincie and Ann Beirne from Coolabawn, Mohill.

In attendance was 93-year-old Margaret Kilkenny, her grandmother who married John Kilkenny (Jackson Kilkenny) in the same church as did her mother Mary who married Noel McGovern from the Gorvagh area at the same venue.

Eileen says although a city girl her heart lies in Leitrim “I'm down every two to three weeks to visit my granny. I spent my school holidays in Leitrim so it's very special for me to be marrying a Leitrim man in a place I love”.
