Snowy road conditions are being reported in Leitrim this morning - drive with care

AA Ireland are reporting snowy conditions for roads in Leitrim and Longford this morning.

Motorists are reminded that stopping distances are 10 times longer than usual in snow or icy conditions. Allow yourself extra braking distance between your vehicle and the cars in front of you.

At the moment there is a significant blanket of snow on many secondary roads and black ice has also been reported in many areas. The Leitrim Observer is aware of snowfall impacting roads in the Mohill, Carrick-on-Shannon and Carrigallen areas. Roads to Drumlish from Cloone and Carrigallen are also impacted by snowfall and should be negotiated with care. 

Snow and icy road conditions are also being reported around Longford town and the surrounding areas. Motorists are advised to proceed to with extreme care.

Snow has also been reported in parts of Roscommon this morning as well and there are reports of black ice as well. 

Please everyone, slow down on our roads and only undertake a journey if completely necessary.
