Gardaí have confirmed that they are continuing their investigation into all of the circumstances surrounding the death of Tullamore woman Lorna Woodnutt in County Offaly on Friday afternoon, 29th of September, 2023.
A post-mortem by State Pathologist Dr Heidi Okkers is ongoing this afternoon at Midlands Regional Hospital, Tullamore and an examination of the scene by the Garda Technical Bureau remains ongoing.
A male child continues to be detained under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984, at a Garda Station in the Midlands.
A garda statement said no spokesperson is available and no further updates are available at this time.
Lorna Woodnutt died following a violent incident early on Friday afternoon.
The local woman was found with severe injuries and dead at the scene at a house near Rahan, around 10km outside Tullamore at 1pm on Friday.
It's understood the woman was savagely attacked, possibly with a number of weapons.
The aftermath of the horror killing was shared on social media with a number of videos circulating.
This prompted Gardaí to issue an appeal on the sharing of such material.
"An Garda Síochána is aware that images from this incident are circulating on social media and messaging apps and is appealing to any person who receives these images not to share the content further," they said in a statement.
