Circus matriarch dies aged 92 and will be 'always loved and never forgotten'

Circus legend dies at age 92

Herta Fossett

Fossett's Circus matron Herta Fossett has died aged 92, her family has announced.

Ms Fossett died on Sunday, March 3, while on tour with the circus in Newbridge, Co Kildare.

The family said that she and her late husband Teddy devoted their lives to what they loved, which was the circus: "You have to love it. It's a hard life, not an easy life, but it's a rewarding life," Ms Fossett said previously.

Ms Fossett first came to Ireland in 1952 from Czechoslovakia while touring as a trapeze artist with the circus and "fell in love with Teddy at first sight".

Mr and Ms Fossett were married in 1953 and were both part of the day-to-day running of Fossett's Circus throughout their lives. Mr Fossett passed away in 1998.

The family statement concluded: "We will all miss our mother, mother-in-law, grandmother, great-grandmother, a huge loss to everyone in Fossett's Circus and her many friends all over the country, Herta will always be loved and never forgotten."
