LATEST: Over 100,000 to remain without power into next week following Storm Éowyn

The ESB has issued an update on the power restoration efforts across the country following the damage caused by last Friday's historic Storm Éowyn

As of Wednesday, power has been restored for 635,000 homes and businesses. However, around 133,000 customers remain without electricity across the country.

Now in day six of restoration efforts, the ESB anticipates that the vast majority of customers who lost power during the storm will have their supply restored on Friday night, 31 January. They have also stated that remaining customers should have power over the course of next week but this could be as many as 100,000.

Support from Austria, Finland and the UK are now on the ground in the areas worst impacted by the power outages. Technicians from France will also arrive on Wednesday afternoon to provide additional support.

This comes as the ESB has bolstered crews in the badly affected western and northern half of the country with colleagues from the south and east as well as retirees. They have also doubled their resources in the customer contact centre.

As frustration continues to mount across the country, the Cabinet are due to meet on Wednesday to discuss the government's response to the storm recovery efforts.
