A Garda sniffer dog is getting plenty of belly rubs after uncovering eight incidents of drug possession during a high-visibility operation at a busy Irish train station over the weekend.
The talented pup, named Gunner, joined gardaí at Ceannt Station in Galway on Saturday as they patrolled platforms and trains as part of a public transport policing blitz.
According to gardaí, the spaniel "has been very busy bringing paw and order to the streets of Galway" and is "on track to have a great career, sniffing out crime at full steam."
Gunner's efforts didn't go unnoticed by rail passengers either.
"Gunner got a very positive response from commuters as he walked through the crowd on the platform and on board the trains, who also praised our members for their high-visibility presence," gardaí said.
Investigations into the drug seizures are ongoing.
The operation is part of a wider Garda strategy to tackle drug activity and antisocial behaviour on public transport nationwide.
