Arrest made after man dies and woman injured in crash on M50

A man has been arrested after a fatal single-car collision on the M50 in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

A male passenger aged in his 20s was killed and a female passenger aged in her 30s is in a serious condition at the Mater Misericordiae University Hospital.

The crash took place on the N2/M50 northbound slip road at Junction 5 shortly after 1am.

A man aged in his 20s was arrested at the scene under the Road Traffic Act and is being detained at a Garda station in Dublin.

A post-mortem examination is due to take place on the body of the man who died in the crash.

A technical examination of the scene has been carried out by forensic investigators.

Gardai are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision, or anyone with camera footage from the area around the time of the incident, to contact them.
