Irish holidaymakers warned as Ryanair's new baggage rules come into effect
Passengers will be happy to know that Ryanair has finally introduced their new rules surrounding baggage allowance as of today, Thursday, 4 September. However, fees still remain if these rules are violated.
At the beginning of the summer, the airline promised to increase the size of personal bags passengers are permitted to bring onboard the plane.
Under the previous rules, personal bags could not exceed 40x20x25cm. Now, this has been extended to 40x30x20cm. Although this may seem like a modest increase to the dimensions of bags permitted, it is nonetheless 33% larger than EU standard.
These small personal bags can be carried onboard the plane, however despite the increase in size they must still fit under the seat in front of you. They can be counted as a handbag, laptop bag or backpack.

All passenger fare types with Ryanair include these small bags free of charge. There are multiple options available if you need additional baggage, however, these come at an extra cost.
If you want to bring a 10kg bag - which most passengers often do - as well as this personal bag, then you must pay an extra fee.
As of Thursday, all airports that Ryanair operate out of have adjusted their bag sizers to accommodate the changes to the personal bag dimensions.
However, passengers have been warned that failure to comply with these rules will still be met with fees.
If passengers arrive at the airport with a small bag that still exceeds the baggage sizers, Ryanair's policy states that "it will be refused at the boarding gate, or where available, placed in the hold of the aircraft for a fee at the level set out in our Regulations. You will be required to leave your bags at the aircraft steps, in the gate bag trolley, or as directed by Ryanair agents, for stowage in the hold."
