Four people in 'serious condition' following Kilkenny crash as Gardaí appeal for witnesses

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses after four people were hospitalised following a serious single vehicle road traffic collision on the M9 Motorway in Kilkenny on Saturday night, 20 September.

The incident occurred on the M9 Motorway southbound at Stonecarty, Knocktopher in Kilkenny at approximately 7pm on Saturday night. 

In a statement from An Garda Síochána, gardaí said "the vehicle was travelling southbound on the motorway, left the road and stopped in a field."

Gardaí confirmed that the driver, a man aged in his 30s, and his three passengers, aged in their 30s and 40s, were transported to Waterford University Hospital where they "remain in a serious condition."

The M9 Motorway between junction 9 (Danesfort) and junction 10 (Knocktopher) southbound is currently closed as a technical examination of the scene by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators is currently taking place. Local diversions are in place.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to the collision to come forward.

Any road users who may have camera or dash-cam footage who were travelling in the area at the time of the collision are being asked to make this footage available to gardaí.

This is the second serious collision to have occurred on Saturday night as a man in his 40s was killed in Cork after being hit by a car on the M8 motorway.
