RIP: Gardai confirm 'a number of fatalities' following multi-vehicle road crash in Louth

The fatal incident on the Ardee Road, Dundalk shortly after 9pm on Saturday

A number of people have died following a multi-vehicle road crash in County Louth gardai have confirmed.

While details of the incident remain unclear, they say they are currently at scene of a fatal road traffic collision that occurred on the Ardee Road, Dundalk shortly after 9pm on Saturday.

"The collision occurred on the L3168 in the townland of Gibstown, Dundalk involving two vehicles and a number of fatalities have occurred," said a spokesperson.

The vehicles and the bodies of the deceased all remain at scene. A number of people have also been taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital, Drogheda for assessment and medical treatment.

Motorists are being advised the L3168 road remains closed between the N52 and the R171, pending a technical examination by Garda Forensic Collision Investigators. Local traffic diversions are in place.

A full investigation has been launched and gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed this collision to contact them.

Any road users who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, and who were traveling on the L3168, Ardee Road, Dundalk, Co. Louth between 8.30pm and 9.15pm on Saturday are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
