REVEALED: How to complete tax return as average Irish taxpayer owed over €800 from Revenue
People across Ireland are being reminded to complete their tax returns for 2025, with over a quarter of taxpayers likely owed money from Revenue.
The easiest way to do your tax return is through Revenue's online portal, which you can log into using your PPS number or a MyGovID account.
You can then click on the 'Review my tax for the previous 4 years link,' where you will be directed to complete your income tax return for 2025.

If you haven't done so previously, you can also claim tax back for 2024, 2023, and 2022.
You will then click on your 'Preliminary end of year statement' and press start.
This involves declaring your income and any social welfare payments you receive as well as being asked for any medical expenses that you might have paid during the year, which can then be refunded to you.
You will get a preliminary estimate of how much you are owed by Revenue, if anything.
"The money goes into your account within three days," Mairead O'Driscoll, a tax advisor, told Ireland AM this morning.
She said that on average, people are getting between €800 and €900 back in tax, but she has heard of people getting up to €5,000 back.

Mairead highlighted that it does vary from person to person and that sometimes, you could have underpaid your tax, meaning that you will actually owe Revenue money.
"When you're an employee, that's unlikely because your employer looks after your taxes. The only reason you might owe tax is if you were on, for some reason, a social welfare payment," she said.
Revenue has been encouraging people to complete their tax return forms via email and letters.
The form can be completed at any time during the year, but it is usually encouraged at the beginning of the year.
