Tributes have poured in following the death of Emer O'Reilly (née Gavin), the sister of Irish celebrity gardener Diarmuid Gavin, who has led heartfelt condolences after her passing.

Emer, from Clonskeagh, Dublin, died peacefully on January 18, surrounded by her loving family and in the care of staff at St. Vincent's Hospital.

Announcing the devastating news, Diarmuid Gavin shared a tribute on social media alongside a series of family photographs, describing Emer as the heart of their family.

"Our little sister Emer, Jack and Joan's youngest, has passed away," he wrote.

"Gerry's wife, Jack and Hannah's mum, Mum's daughter,

"Emer was our sunshine, the glue who held everything together.

"Words cannot express how much we will miss you"

Emer is survived by her husband Gerard, her children Jack and Hannah, her mother Joan, brothers Dermot and Declan, sister Niamh, as well as nieces, extended family and friends.

The emotional post prompted an outpouring of sympathy from well-known figures across Irish media, music and entertainment.

Singer Dermot Kennedy commented: "So sorry for your loss Diarmuid."

Ireland AM presenter Muireann O'Connell wrote: "I am so sorry, Diarmuid, in the loss of your lovely, baby sister. My sincere condolences to you and your family for this awful loss."

RTÉ broadcaster Mary Kennedy said: "I'm so sorry to read this sad news Diarmuid. May your sister rest in peace xxx"

Architect and Room to Improve star Dermot Bannon added: "I'm so sorry to hear this Diarmuid."

Comedian and presenter Kevin McGahern also shared his sympathies, writing: "Our deepest sympathies Diarmuid. Sending love, Kevin and Siobhán."

According to her RIP.ie death notice, Emer will repose at Quinn's of Glasthule on Wednesday, January 21, from 4pm to 6pm.

Her Funeral Mass will take place on Thursday, January 22, at the Church of St. Columbanus, St. Gall and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, Milltown, arriving for 11am, followed by burial in Mount Venus Cemetery.
