Aughnasheelin Scór competitors and supporters celebrate winning the Club of the Year, the ballad group, solo singing and set dancing at the Leitrim Senior Scór finals Picture: Willie Donnellan
With three titles each on the night, Aughnasheelin pipped St. Mary’s Kiltoghert for the Club of the Year prize at the 2019 Leitrim Senior Scór County Final last Saturday in St Mary’s Hall in Carrick-on-Shannon.
Aughnasheelin won the titles in the ballad group, set dance and with Sinead Egan in solo singing while St. Mary’s Kiltoghert won the Rince Foirne, instrumental music and recitation through Kathy Butler with no competitors in the Léiriú.
The Cormac Mac Giolla Shield for Club na Bliana, chosen by the panel of judges from Westmeath, was presented by Ailbhe McGill to Aughnasheelin’s Scor officer Sheila McNulty with County Board Chairman Terence Boyle presenting the medals and County PRO Declan Bohan hosting as Fear an Tí.
Though disheartening not to have an entry for all seven events, the entry was nevertheless strong and very entertaining and it was fantastic to see some familiar faces returning to Scór Liatroma.
However, it was very disappointing to see no entry for the Leiriu competition once again, an event dominated by Leitrim in the national roll of honour and something for the county to work towards going forward, given the legacy of past all Irelands won in this competition.
The Leitrim Senior Scór quiz will take place on Friday February 22. Club tables comprise of four people aged over 17 effective January 1, 2019. Clubs are welcome to enter as many teams as they wish.
Leitrim’s winners will go on to the Connacht Finals in Balla, Co Mayo on Sunday March 10, at 3pm with the All-Ireland finals in the TF Royal Theatre in Castlebar on April 13. Winners of the table quiz go on directly to the All-Ireland finals but they also compete at the Connacht finals.
All-Ireland Scor na nOg Finals
The All-Ireland Scór na nÓg final will be held this weekend, Saturday February 17, in the TF Theatre Castlebar, Co Mayo.
The stage competition starts at 3pm sharp. Please note this is a ticket only event. If you have not pre-booked tickets please check with club Scór officers for availability before travelling to the finals. Leitrim is honoured to have a phenomenal amount of talent and a great achievement for our small county.
Ballad group representatives from St Mary’s Kiltoghert are no strangers to the All-Ireland Scór. Saturday will be the group's fourth consecutive year to compete at all Ireland.
Ballinamore Sean O'Heslin's club represents Leitrim in the table quiz. The team will be hoping for a good result on Saturday.
This event will be held at the De La Salle Sports Hall, Castlebar at 11am sharp. Entry to the quiz is free of charge. Wishing all of the competitors the very best of luck.
