Trojan work taking place in Kinlough as construction of new dressing rooms to start

An artists impression of the new dressing rooms complex

Kinlough Community Development Company earlier this year welcomed €89,500 in grant aid from Leitrim County Council Town and Village Funding to start work on the extension to the Community Centre.

This extension would be a second floor on top of the current dressing room building which would house two large meeting rooms suitable for a range of activities.

They have now welcomed matching funding from Rural Development LEADER program 2014-2020 from the Leitrim Local Community Development Committee in the amount of €89,303.20. On receipt of this second grant they were able to confirm the contract via a successful e-tender submission with Paul Breslin Construction Limited from Dunkineely. They expect to begin works this month.

The first floor extension to the existing changing room building is an ambitious project that will see the development of a 103m2 Business Hub. The Hub will be complete with two generous modern work spaces, providing a flexible layout where hot desks will be available to local businesses and individuals.

The project will present a fantastic opportunity for fledging enterprises to access a professional work space and aims to drive the local economy by helping the local SME sector reach that next step.

It is envisaged that companies and individuals using the building will form a perfect local network where ideas can be exchanged and new ventures will lift off with a view to generating local employment.

The building design is the vision of October House Designs based in Ballyshannon. The design is simple yet striking in nature matching the ambitions of the promoters in transforming Kinlough into a desirable place to live and work where the local Community can access vital facilities in their local area.

The modern appearance of the building with a prominent balcony/glazed feature facing the approach from the village and overlooking the playing fields will transform and enhance the visual impact of the Community Site as a whole.

The building represents a bold statement reflecting the progressive plans that Kinlough Community Development Ltd. are moving forward constantly through hard work and with the generous backing of the fantastic Community of Kinlough who are never failing in their support in supporting this project.

More good news from the Leitrim Local Community Development Committee followed with a second application made to them for various finishing works around the site being successful too. They were awarded a 75% grant in the amount of €70,094.89.

So in the coming six months not only will the dressing room project be completed but they will also equip the kitchen in the Community Centre to a commercial standard, they will tarmac and erect lighting in the new car park area gained from works on the pitch and they will construct spectator fencing and dugouts around the improved pitch.

Finally they also welcomed a third grant of €3000 which came in from Leitrim Co Co Community Enhancement to put up new roadside fencing on the main road.

Trojan work has been going on behind the scenes to apply for all these grants. Fundraising will still continue and a loan was secured from Clann Credo to help finance all the projects to completion.

Works are still undergoing on the pitch too. Grass is growing well and being cut regularly to help it all bed in and establish good roots. Goalposts and ball stop netting soon to be erected and on sign off from engineer its planned that the pitch will reopen in 2020.

Its planned by Summer 2020 all will be complete and it will mean investment of over €500,000 in the Community Centre and grounds since 2018.

The group are very grateful for the support of not only these funding companies but the support of the community who have helped significantly with supporting the fundraising endeavours and also the weekly support day in and day out of using and contributing to the Community Centre.

All these improvements will make sure Kinlough Community Centre continues to be a focal point for everyone in the community.

The next big fundraiser will be taking place later this year!
