Flybe has announced it is to operate a new service from Ireland West Airport Knock to Birmingham starting in October 2013.
Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD was at the airport to celebrate the announcement.
Starting on October 27th this year, Flybe will operate four weekly flights from Ireland West Airport Knock to Birmingham with fares starting from just €45 one way including taxes.
Commenting on the announcement, Flybe’s Head of PR, Niall Duffy said they were delighted with the development.
“Given that we are already the biggest airline at Birmingham airport, when we learnt of the opportunity to offer the route it was an obvious and natural extension to our network.
“We look forward to welcoming thousands of new passengers onto the service and are pleased to be able to step into the breach,” he added.
Welcoming the new service, Minister of State at the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport, Michael Ring TD pointed out that, “Flybe continue to provide an invaluable service to the people of the West and North West of Ireland and we look forward to continuing to welcome visitors from the Birmingham region to the West this autumn and wish Flybe every success with the new service”.
Managing Director of Ireland West Airport Knock Joe Gilmore was also delighted with the news noting, “Our Birmingham service has long been one of our most established routes from the airport with over 50,000 passengers using the services each year.
“This announcement highlights Flybe’s commitment to serving the people of the West & North West of Ireland, providing vital connectivity to key markets in the UK and Scotland,” he told the Leitrim Observer following the announcement last week.

The service will operate on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sunday.
