Aurora Alert in Leitrim

Chance of seeing Aurora in Leitrim

Want to see the Northern Lights but can't afford the trip to Iceland?

Save your pennies because Astronomy Ireland says there is a high possibility of seeing Aurora on high land in Leitrim this weekend!

A coronal hole on the Sun is expected to spew material towards Earth and cause displays of the Northern Lights over the next few nights that should be visible from Ireland.

Keep a close eye on the northern horizon Saturday, Sunday and Monday night at least. View any time from dusk to dawn and the good news is that the Moon is out of the way early in the night (Moon rises Saturday night around midnight for Ireland, and not until 1am on Monday morning and after 2am Tuesday morning).

Happy sky gazing and if you do get a good picture of Aurora in Leitrim please send it into or tag us on Facebook or @LeitrimToday on Twitter.
