The multi-award-winning Jinny’s Bakery in Drumshanbo has scooped three more ‘Oscars of the food world’ for its ‘simply delicious’ scones and soda breads.

The hat-trick of Great Taste Awards from the Guild of Fine Food is the icing on the cake for the family-run artisan bakery which is celebrating a decade in business in a year that has seen it already make its way into McKenna’s Guide.

Owned by Drumshanbo residents Pascal Gillard and his wife, Sinéad, the bakery won the coveted Great Taste gold awards for its fruit scones, hi-fibre brown soda bread and hi-fibre sugar-free brown soda bread.

The judges described Jinny’s soda breads as ‘very attractive’ and ‘evenly baked’ with a ‘good crunch to the crust’ and ‘nicely moist’, while Jinny’s fruit scones got top marks for their ‘lovely and rustic’ appearance and ‘good fruit dispersion’.

Judges also said the scones had a ‘nice amount of sweetness and a hint of cinnamon which is not too over powering’.

Blind-tasted and judged by over 400 of the most demanding palates – belonging to food critics, chefs, producers and members of the Women’s Institute – Great Taste is one of the most respected accreditation schemes for speciality food producers and more than 10,000 products were judged throughout Ireland and Britain this year.

No stranger to winning awards for its wholesome produce down through the years, Jinny’s latest accolades are in addition to its place in the 2014 McKenna’s Guide (formerly Bridgestone) and are another reminder that customers can be confident they are buying the highest quality baked goods on the market, while supporting local enterprise and employment in the West of Ireland.

Renowned guidebook author, John McKenna, said: ‘You are a lucky bread lover if you live within the distribution circle of Sinead and Pascal’s cutting-edge artisan bakery... Jinny’s has established itself as one of thoses companies that wins gold medals as often as the rest of us have hot dinners.

Commenting on the wins, Pascal Gillard said: ‘Our products are made from scratch every day and we use the highest quality ingredients, with no additives. We are delighted with the awards and would like to thank our staff and customers for their continued support.’

Jinny’s Bakery is based in one of McGuire’s holiday cottages on the picturesque shores of Acres Lake, Drumshanbo, and there’s never been a better time to taste for yourself the delicious produce that comes out of its ovens!

Jinny’s products are available in a number of supermarkets, cafés, independent shops and hotels in Leitrim, Mayo, Sligo, Donegal, Roscommon, Cavan, Longford and Dublin.
