Abandon football in Leitrim

Dear Madam, I read the letter to your paper re above subject with amazement, bewilderment and finally disgust. I originally thought it was a joke though not very funny. However as the author hadn’t the courage of their convictions to put their name to  the piece I can only assume they were serious.

Dear Madam,

I read the letter to your paper re above subject with amazement, bewilderment and finally disgust. I originally thought it was a joke though not very funny. However as the author hadn’t the courage of their convictions to put their name to  the piece I can only assume they were serious.

I wish to thoroughly disagree with the sentiments therein. As a proud Sligo woman now also a proud Leitrim woman by virtue of living here since 1990 I think it is fantastic to see the commitment of our football team who do their utmost to do their county proud. It is not all about winning its about taking part and doing your best.I know many of the county players from both Sligo and Leitrim personally and I know how much playing for their county means to them.

Shame on the letter writer for disparaging them. Finally I wish the best of luck to Leitrim on Saturday and Sligo on Sunday. I will be at both matches cheering them on and regardless of the result will still be proud of them.

Yours etc.,

Carla Nealon, Manorhamilton.
