The 225th Commemoration of The Battle of Ballinamuck promises to be one of the biggest historical occasions in the midlands this year.
To keep everyone up to date, the event’s Committee organised the Entertainment Guide section on the official website with all details of many activities that will take place between 7-10 September 2023.
In the section, you will find all details from the main event of the March, from Cloone (Keeldra Lake amenity) to the battlefield or one of the many other cultural events, shows and musical spectaculars.
The Battle of Ballinamuck was the last engagement of the 1798 Rebellion by the United Irishmen in Ireland. It took place on September 8 1798, and marked the defeat of the main force of the French incursion, with some 500 Irish rebels and French troops believed to be buried in a mass grave at the top of Shanmullagh Hill in Ballinamuck.
The event’s launch night takes place on August 12 at 8pm at the iconic ‘98 Bar in Ballinamuck, which dates back to the time of the battle, sits at the foot of Kiltycreevagh Hill, a gateway to Ballinamuck and is crossed by General Humbert’s French forces prior to the battle.
If you wish to take part in any of the four days of events, please feel free to approach any committee member at the launch event.
