Hunters Moon back in Carrick -on -Shannon for an all-day festival

HowlBux performs at Moon Mountain on October 21

Hunters Moon presents Moon Mountain, an all-day festival of experimentation in music and sound with live performances, zine stalls, a DIY independent record fair, Leitrim Larks singer's circle, DJs, workshops, visuals, and more.

The festival, with a series of free events, takes place at The Dock on October 21 from 2pm until late.

'Create your own 'zines" is a free workshop facilitated by Sukie Zines, where you get to design and create your own 'zine – an informal type of fanzine made up of collages of images, texts and messages.

The workshop is for anyone aged 15 years upwards who wants to learn the art and skills of this remarkable form of creative expression. Participation is free, but places are limited, and booking in advance is advisable.

The Jury Room Café is open to the public throughout the day and will host free music events.

In the afternoon, Dublin-based, Chicago-born Queen Beatz plays her fun and imaginative set in the cosy surroundings of the Café. A versatile DJ who never sticks to one genre, Queen Beatz is part of the mighty Sim Simma crew and affiliated with some of the country's most notorious collectives.

Located in the foyer of The Dock, BRRR BRRR BRRR record stalls present their DIY pop-up record fair, which celebrates independent record shops, labels, and producers on the island of Ireland.

From 6-8pm, back in the Jury Room Café, the renowned traditional singer and music folklorist Fionnuala Maxwell will host the Leitrim Larks Singing Circle.

The group, who celebrate, rediscover and revive traditional songs from Leitrim, will be joined by Dublin singer Macdara Yeates. Together, they will welcome other singers, storytellers, spoken-word artists and listeners to their 'Lend and Ear' session. This is another free event and is open to all.

Music throughout the day and night will range from experimental post-punk to musical traditions of the Middle East and North Africa; ecstatic party music to a mix of African, Jamaican Dance Hall, Middle Eastern Dabke and dance music; and from traditional Leitrim singing to immersive sonic installations. Artists hail from all over the North West, the country and the world, from Leitrim to Syria and places in between.

Live readings featuring artist Eimear Walshe as an orator, with Ultan O'Brien on fiddle, plus special guests and visuals by Ruth Clinton and Karen Constance, all contribute to a programme of fascinating events.

For more information about all the artists and performers contributing to this long-awaited return of the Hunters Moon crew to Carrick-on-Shannon, you can visit thedock.ie or call The Dock box office on 071 96 50 828.

Tickets cost €22 and will allow access from 2pm until the wee small hours.

Moon Mountain is supported by Leitrim Arts Office and The Dock. The late-night events are supported through the Night-Time Economy After Hours at the Museum scheme.
