We've been elected to do the very best for our county - McGowan

Cllr Sean McGowan was a tired but relieved man after he was formally re-elected to Leitrim County Council last weekend.
“It's been a long day, it's been a long 8 weeks but I had a great canvass and a great team behind me,” he said, paying tribute to his immediate family and his wife Chrissie “who has been a tower of strength.”

This is his seventh time to be elected to Leitrim County Council and he is looking forward to it. “It will be a different council, there will be six new members, certainly it'll be challenging but we've all been elected by the people to do the very best for our county, to try to promote our county and get further investment into it. That's something I'm going to push hard for,” he said.

Acknowledging the strength of the candidates in the field he thought Fianna Fáil was unlucky not to get three seats. “I feel sorry for Stephen (King) in the sense that he was late in joining the field, so he was at a disadvantage in that regard. I feel very sorry for him. I believe if he puts his shoulder to the wheel and puts his head down he can get a seat.

“I want to thank most sincerely all who voted for me in the election, to all the people I met on the canvass thank you for the warmth and courtesy shown to me, and I look forward to working with all my colleagues over the next five years for the betterment of Leitrim.”
