Planning permission granted for higher wind turbines at Tullynamoyle wind farm in Leitrim
On Monday, Leitrim County Council granted planning permission for modifications to a wind farm expansion that was previously approved in 2023 in Tullinloughan, Lackagh, Tullynamoyle, and Gowlaun.
The expansion that will see the erection of four new wind turbines in the town lands before 2033 can now do so while making the turbines higher than originally planned and placing some in different places.
Originally, Tullynamoyle Wind Farm 5 Limited were only permitted by Leitrim County Council to build the wind turbines at a height of 155 metres, however, this has now been increased to 156.5 metres, while the diameter of the perperpelors has also increased from 126 metres to 138 metres.
These wind turbines will be added to the 19 that already exist on the wind farm. Wind farms have been a point of contention in the area in recent years, with groups like Save Dough Mountain and Wind Aware Drumahair protesting against similar projects in the surrounding areas.
In addition, the application requests minor relocations of two turbines: Turbine 16 would move approximately 10 meters south, while Turbine 22 would shift 12 meters north. The plan also includes realigning the access road near Turbine 17 and installing a new cable connecting Turbine 22 to the Tullynamoyle Substation.
The application, which was made in November of last year, was submitted along with a Natura impact statement.
