A man was arrested after he failed to stop for gardaí and crashed at the Shannon roundabout in Carrick-on-Shannon in the early hours of Sunday morning, gardaí have confirmed.
Gardaí on patrol at Bridge Street, Carrick-on-Shannon attempted to stop a car at around 2.30am on Sunday, February 8th.
“The driver failed to stop and the car was subsequently involved in a collision at the Shannon roundabout,” a garda spokesperson confirmed.
“A man, aged in his 30s, was arrested and subsequently charged to appear before Carrick-on-Shannon District Court at a future date,” the spokesperson added.
Investigations are ongoing, the spokesperson said.

Pictures taken of the Shannon roundabout in Carrick-on-Shannon show severe damage to signage and flower beds caused by the crash.
There are visible car tracks across the roundabout and the vehicle appears to have eventually stopped some distance away.
The roundabout is at the junction of the Old Dublin Road and the N4 bypass close to Shannon Lodge and Scoil Mhuire.
It is also understood that Leitrim Co Council workers treated the N4 for oil leaks afterwards.
Carrick-on-Shannon Tidy Towns immediately vowed to fix the roundabout damage.
“Our lovely Shannon Roundabout got partially destroyed in an accident... We have a lot of projects to organise right now and now we will have to see if we can repair this before anything else. But hey, we wouldn't be Supervalu Tidy Town Ireland's tidiest town if we didn't have an enormous amount of positivity.. we got this,” the group posted on social media.
And true to their word, their workers had the roundabout pretty much patched up and fixed on Monday, just a little over 24-hours later.
