The evening was filled with fun, learning, and friendly competition, as schools from across the region battled it out in two age categories: Under 11 and Under 13.
Taking home 1st place in the Under 11 category were Edel Cleary, Ruby Maguire, Jack McDonald, and Sarim Muhammad Asad from St. Clare’s Primary School, Manorhamilton. Meanwhile, Daire McCawley, Niall Loughlin, Katelyn Conaghan, and Michael O’Connell, also from St. Clare’s Primary School, claimed victory in the Under 13 category. Both teams will now go on to represent the area at Chapter Level, which will be held at The Bush Hotel, Carrick-on-Shannon, on Sunday, 9th March, at 3 pm.
Winners received customised trophies from Manorhamilton & District Credit Union, while the first-place teams were also presented with official certificates to mark their achievement.
A large crowd of parents and guardians turned out in support, creating a fantastic atmosphere throughout the evening.
Speaking after the event, Pauline Murray, Manager of Manorhamilton & District Credit Union, expressed her gratitude: “We are thrilled with the turnout and the enthusiasm from all the young participants.
Events like these highlight the strong community spirit that Credit Unions help to foster. A huge thank you to our Quizmaster, Brian Kerrigan, and to Helen McManus, Carla Nealon and our Marketing Manager, Francie Boylan for organising such an important event in the Credit Union calendar. We also appreciate the efforts of our board members and James Molloy for capturing the evening with fantastic photography”.
“As a Not-For-Profit organisation, Manorhamilton & District Credit Union plays a crucial role in supporting the local community. Without our members, we simply wouldn’t be able to run these events, sponsor local teams or community groups, or provide financial services that put people first. We encourage both young and old to join their local Credit Union – whether it’s for savings, loans, or community support, being a member means being part of something bigger,” Ms Murray added.
Ms Murray also emphasised the importance of teaching young people financial responsibility from an early age: “Giving children the ‘Gift of Saving’ is one of the best lessons we can offer. Encouraging good saving habits now will benefit them for life.”
“Congratulations to all participants, and best of luck to our winning teams in the next stage of the competition!” she added.
