This year’s event marked a significant change in tradition, moving its starting point to Drumshanbo Mart, a location of deep personal significance to the late James Cull.
The event, which has become a staple of the local Christmas calendar, saw a massive turnout of tractors and trucks. Participants set off at 1:00 PM sharp on a picturesque route that took them through Keadue and Ballyfarnon, before climbing the mountain road into Arigna and returning to Drumshanbo.
The run is held annually in memory of James Cull, a popular young farmer and Arigna native who tragically lost his battle with depression in 2019. Since its inception, the event has served as both a tribute to James and a vital platform for raising mental health awareness within the agricultural community.
Organised by James’s siblings, Cllr Leah Cull and Brian Cull, along with family friend Kevin Reynolds, the event continues to grow in scale and impact. "The Mart was the last place James visited," the organizers shared ahead of the event. "Hosting it here this year makes it incredibly special for us."
All proceeds from the run run are dedicated to North West STOP, a community-based suicide prevention organization. To date, the James Cull Memorial Run has raised over €85,000 for the charity, funding more than 1,500 free counseling sessions for people across the region
Total Raised to Date: Over €85,000 (excluding 2025 totals).
Beneficiary: North West STOP (Suicide Prevention).
The organizers wish to extend their heartfelt gratitude to everyone who participated, volunteered, and donated to make this year’s event a resounding success.
For those who couldn't attend but wish to contribute, donations remain open through the official North West STOP fundraising page.
