Leitrim is no longer the cheapest county to buy a house in.

The Residential Property Barometer survey from the Institute of Professional Auctioneers and Valuers tracks the price received for houses, not the asking prices.

The report finds that “we are very close to 2006/7 prices” but back then we had no issue with supply, this current market has a shortage of supply and the Central Bank has tighter lending rules than a decade ago.

The survey shows that Leitrim is no longer the cheapest county to buy houses. Cavan, Longford, Tipperary, and Roscommon are now cheaper on average. The average property price in Leitrim was 156,000 last year.

The price of a 2 bed house rose from €108,334 to €115,000 last year.

A 3 bed home climbed from €155,000 in January 2021 to €161,667 at the end of December 2021.

Leitrim is the fourth cheapest in the country for a four bed house at €193,334 after a 4.5% rise last year.
