RIP: Fond memories shared after the passing of Leitrim man celebrated for his love of music

Tributes have been paid following the passing of a Leitrim man remembered for his deep love of music and storytelling.

Joseph (Jimmy Joe) Dolan of Ben View Park, Manorhamilton passed away peacefully at his home on Monday, January 5.

He was predeceased by his wife, Mary (Maura) Dolores, and his brother Jack. Joseph will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his daughters, Anna-Marie, Martina and Katrina; his son Shane; grandchildren Carissa, Lauren, Jessica, Annalise, Aidan, Sophia and Blaine; great-granddaughter Cassidy; sisters Bridie, Cáit and Mary; brothers Denis and James; as well as his extended family, neighbours and friends.

Condolences have been shared on RIP.ie, where many recalled Joseph’s warmth, talent and generosity of spirit. “A lovely pleasant man and a great singer and musician. Some great nights were enjoyed around London in the late 60s listening to his music and songs. Later around Manorhamilton had always time for chat,” one condolence read.

Another said, “Jimmy Joe had so much talent. It was such a pleasure to be in his company. I loved his stories and poetry. His music was so wonderful to listen to. I and the whole community will miss him so much.”

Joseph will repose at Our Lady’s Hospital Chapel in Manorhamilton on Sunday, January 18 from 5pm to 7pm, with removal to St Clare's Church, Manorhamilton, to arrive at 7:45pm.

Funeral Mass will take place on Monday, January 19 at 12pm, followed by cremation in Lakelands Crematorium, Co Cavan.

He has also been fondly remembered for the joy he brought to those he played music with. “I have fond memories of being in his company and playing music with him. His love for singing and storytelling touched the hearts of everyone who knew him. He will be deeply missed,” one tribute stated.

Another condolence described him as “a most lovable gentleman throughout his long life,” adding: “delighted people at home and in London with his easy musical style and his quick repartee and hilarious anecdotes and stories. What a loss he is to his family, friends, neighbours and the many, many musicians who shared the stage or the dancehall or the pub sessions with Mr Music himself.”

“We had great times in your company through the years, whether it be playing music or just listening to that great voice singing or storytelling. One mighty Leitrim character,” another wrote.
