On Saturday, CRFC Minis had a fantastic day on two fronts.
We’ll start with the Under-10s who travelled to Ballina for the first of the IRFU Connacht Blitzes this season. Coach Liam Farrell took the lads to Ballina along with great support from Carrick Minis’ Supporters Club, a large troop of parents! By all accounts, Carrick U-10s had three fantastic games and did themselves and the club proud. In truth, the team won all their games and were presented with a cool patch for the players to remind them of the fun day they had. Well done lads and many thanks to Liam for passing on his skills to the players over the last season.
Our second ever home blitz this season was at Leitrim Community pitch. Our co-ordinator again this season was Coach Donal Woods, who organised the event and was assisted on the catering/hospitality end by parent, Linda Reynolds. Creggs RFC were the visiting team and after our excellent time in Creggs the previous week, there were scores to be settled.
Could Carrick match the facilities, hospitality, and competition of Creggs? Oh yes we could and we did, BIG time!!
Again, each of the age groups turned out in numbers, accompanied by a large band of Carrick Minis’ Supporters Club. The weather was perfect for rugby and all the Carrick players were ready for a morning of great rugby. Reports from each age group were completely positive and although there were wins and losses on both sides, the level of rugby was superb. Again, congratulations from all the Carrick Coaches to each player who played brilliantly and are a credit to themselves and their club. We hope that all the parents let their children know that the effort put in by each Carrick and Creggs player was fantastic and the team work was great to see.
A big thankyYou to all the parents, family, and friends who came to support the players. Thank you too to the parents for supporting the club by bringing food and refreshments for the benefit of all our visitors and visitors from Creggs. Also a special thanks to Esquires for their generosity on the day.
Training continues with a 9:30am start next week at Leitrim Community Pitch for all age groups except for Under-12s, who travel to Galway for their IRFU Blitz. More details will follow mid week for all Under 12 players.
Westport/Castlebar Under-8s and 9s IRFU Connaught Blitzes on 16/03/2013: Each Under-8s and 9s player will be forwarded details of their Blitz. Training for all other age groups continues as normal.
St. Patrick’s Day Parade: Carrick Minis will be accompanying the men’s, ladies’ and youth players in this year’s Carrick parade. The kids enjoy the fun of the parade and it’s a great way of promoting how big our club has grown, which might encourage other boys and girls joining next season. Assembly for the parade will be at 12pm at the Girls School, Dublin Road.
Jerseys We will need all Club Jerseys back so that our teams will be fully kitted out at their IRFU Blitzes. We will also need the Jerseys when we participate in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade.
End of Season Event: We can confirm that our season will end after the Easter break on April 6, with a Family fun event. We hope that all players, parents and friends will invite all their friends to come along and to give Rugby a try. The morning will involve tag rugby, as we don’t expect visitors to bring gum shields, tea, coffee & biscuits for parents and bouncy castles and drinks for players and small ones. Please spread the word!
Ladies’ Team: The ladies’ team are looking forward to getting back in action in the Connacht Cup starting next Sunday, March 10.
Men’s Team: Training continues on Wednesday and Friday nights in Castlecara at 8pm.
