Carrick U13s are kings of Connacht

Carrick players celebrate with the Cup

Carrick were crowned Bank of Ireland Connacht U13 champions after a great 29 points to nil victory against Buccaneers at the Dexcom Stadium in Galway last Sunday.

In a cup competition that featured 20 clubs from the length and breadth of Connacht including the senior clubs like Ballina, Creggs, Galway Bay, Galway Corinthians, Galwegians and Sligo it was the Carrick on Shannon RFC U.3 team that lifted the Cup when defeating another senior club in Buccaneers.

Carrick were quick to score a converted try followed by another converted try. After a brilliant penalty kick from the 10 metre line, Carrick were in complete control of the game with a 17-0 lead. From here Carrick managed their lead and stayed in control of the remainder of the game with two more tries, one of which was converted to make the final score 29-0.

A comprehensive win by an accomplished team, a first win for a Carrick Youth Team in a Connacht Cup Final.

U18.5s: Carrick into Plate Final

Carrick’s U18.5s qualified for the Connacht Plate Final following a 34-29 win over Corinthians on Sunday.

Played in good conditions in Carrick, the game was a thriller from start to finish. The visitors came out strong in the first half, scoring the first try after 10 minutes. Carrick slowly grew into the game and were rewarded with a try on 22 mins when Liam McNamee powered over the line, plus two penalties from Peter Moran.

Corinthians replied with a quality try of their own through their backs to leave the halftime score 13-12 to Carrick.

The second half was a rollercoaster. Carrick outscored Corinthians three tries to two, with Carrick’s tries coming through Liam McNamee, Diarmuid O'Connell & Gerard Murtagh.

While Carrick looked out of sight, Corinthians struck back for the last score of the game with five minutes left to make for a nail-biting conclusion. Credit to both teams for an open and sporting game.

Carrick’s next action will be the final against Loughrea.
