Pi Day celebrated by students in Abbey Community College

Pi Day celebrations with students from the honors maths class of Mr Fitzmaurice in Abbey Community College.

Mathematicians and schools across the world celebrated “Pi Day” on March 14 (3/14/19).

In fact, this year the date was even more significant as the date appears very quickly in the decimal approximation, 3.1415926535897 9323846264338327950288419.

The irrational number Pi appears regularly in mathematics when working with circles, angles and triangles. The world record for a person to recite Pi from memory is currently 67,890 decimal digits.

Computer programmes have calculated Pi to 22 trillion digits.

To celebrate the day students from Abbey Community College in Boyle created the decimal approximation of Pi to over 200 decimal places using a colour coded paper chain.
