Potato Day at the Organic Centre

The Organic Centre's in Rossinver, very own Potato Day is back on Sunday March 3rd from 12-4pm, and once again it is free entry to the public.

Get a chance to step back in time with the buzz of its onsite market of craft and food, and demonstrations from willow weaving to heritage wooden games for the children from Steffi in 'Heritage Crafts Alive'.

The Organic Centre will host potato themed talks and tours. Included on the line up will be Michael McManus farming for nature ambassador from Spa Cottage in Co Leitrim chatting about the role of natural remedies like sulpher when growing potatoes.

Old friends and loy champions from The Loy Association of Ireland will be exhibiting the historic tradition of turning the sod for potato growing. There will be a demonstration and talk by the inspiring Paula Heatley (Paulas family Kitchen) recently seen on national television, on the potato based delight of Boxty which hails from Leitrim and the North West.
The centre will have one of the largest national variations of potato seeds for sale with availability of handy sizes to start growing in the family garden. Browse the shops eco and book sections, craft as well as gardening produce and equipment for sale.
Children’s natural craft workshops lead by Greenshoots Parent and Toddler group based at the centre every Friday means there'll be plenty to entertain the younger members of the family. And as those who know and love the event, it will be all things potato on the menu in the Grass Roof Cafe with the centres chef Matt Cater at the helm. A passionate Irish speaker and as Potato Day coincides with the beginning of Seachtain Na Gaeilge,he will be chatting as gaeilge to those who wish, in support of our national language,
