RIP: Man killed in crash near Sligo-Leitrim border named locally

A man who died in a collision between a motorcycle and a lorry at Rusheen, Riverstown on February 24 has been named locally as Michael (Mike) Budd.

The victim of a road traffic accident near the Sligo-Leitrim border has been identified locally as Michael (Mike) Budd, from Drumee, Sooey, County Sligo.

Mr Budd was involved in a collision on February 24 at Rusheen, Riverstown, when a motorcycle and a lorry collided at approximately 9:20am.

He was in his 50s and was pronounced dead at the scene. The lorry driver was taken to Sligo University Hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

The death notice for Mr. Budd on RIP.ie describes him as a dearly loved father of two, Molly and George, and a devoted husband to Tiffany.

He will be deeply missed by his wife and children, his mother Lilian, his brothers Les and Gary, his sisters Sue and Trish, his nephews and nieces, and by many friends and neighbours.

Mr Budd was a practising blacksmith, running a well-known business in Castlebaldwin, County Sligo. 

Tributes on social media have highlighted his warmth and skill. “A lovely man, enjoy many a chat passing his forge door, cuppa in hand, putting the world to right. A true Master at his craft,” one tribute read. Another added, “Sincere condolences to Michael's wife and family. May his gentle soul rest in heavenly peace.”

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who witnessed the crash to come forward.
