In glorious weather conditions in the Bee Park on Sunday, Manor Rangers suffered their 16th defeat of the Super League season after they faced Carbury United.
Carbury United 3 Manor Rangers 1
After losing to Carbury, Manor fell further behind in second last position on the Super League table and in the relegation zone, six points behind third from the bottom Strand Celtic, who have two games in hand on the North Leitrim men.
Manor has still three Super League games to play but even if Manor did secure victories in their last three games, it probably will not be enough for them to avoid relegation.
In Sunday’s showdown with Carbury, Diarmuid Clancy had a chance to edge Manor in front as early as the 5th minute but the Glenfarne man drove his effort wide. Carbury came close to opening the scoring in the game some 16 minutes later when Ross McLoughlin hit a shot from outside the box whizzing outside the Manor’s left upright.
Neil McKenna drew first blood to Carbury on the 30th minute mark when he fully exploited a stretched Manor defence to fire home to the left bottom corner of the net from 20 yards.
McKenna’s strike gave Carbury a 1-0 lead at the interval. Within two minutes of the restart Manor’s Pat Sweeney shot inches wide with a well hit long range effort.
Sweeney played a key role in getting Manor on level terms some 11 minutes later when he delivered a pin point accurate corner on to Anthony McDonald who headed home the equaliser from 3 yards.
But two minutes later Manor went behind again after Neil Hargadon crossed from the right to unmarked former Rangers player Kieran Brick to head past keeper Joe Keaney from 4 yards.
Carbury went two up in the 63rd minute when Neil McKenna finished to the net for a second time from outside the ‘box.’ After that both sides created a number of chances at opposite ends without being able to add to either of their tallies before the finish.
