Carrick Town caused a real upset on Friday evening last when they made the journey to face Boyle Celtic in the Champions Cup semi-final.

Carrick Town caused a real upset on Friday evening last when they made the journey to face Boyle Celtic in the Champions Cup semi-final.

Boyle deservedly opened the scoring through Michael Corrigan in the 15th minutes but Carrick Town soon got to grips with the task in hand and equalised with a Brian O’Donnell goal 10 minutes later.

Ten minutes into the second half Carrick won a corner and Niall Comerton headed into the goal. However, with 10 minutes remaining Niall Brennan scored a fine equaliser.

With just two minutes left Jonathan Cassidy’s and Jack De Lacy combined to find Brian O’Donnell headed home to score a glorious winner.

Carrick Town will play City United in the Champions Cup final on Friday next in MacSharry Park, ko 7.30pm.
