Carrick Town trio on Sligo Leitrim squad

Carrick Town players Mark Diffley, Niall Morahan and Jack Matthews who represented the Sligo/Leitrim Development Squad in the Kennedy Cup. The Kennedy Cup is a national u14 competition for the 32 F.A.I development squads. Held in the University of Limerick, the Sligo/Leitrim squad was seeded 32nd based on performances in the previous 3 years in the competition. In the group phase victories over Kilkenny (2-1), Limerick (1-0) and a draw against Dublin (0-0) ensured Sligo/Leitrim topped their group.A 1-0 loss in the quarter-final to eventual finalists Waterford saw Sligo/Leitrim qualify for the Plate competition to determine finishing positions 5th to 8th.The Plate semi-final v Wexford finished 2-2 with Sligo/Leitrim winning 5-4 in the penalty shoot-out. Sligo/Leitrim lost the final 3-1 to Galway and, in doing so, finished 6th overall - the best finish by a Sligo/Leitrim team in the competition's 39 years. Congratulations lads!
