Carrick Town FC
U-12: We kicked off our new season with a trip to Tubbercurry last Saturday. Aiming to retain the title we earned last season the Carrick side started in impressive fashion and took a deserved lead mid way through the first half when the lively Oisin Bohan found the net with a cross/shot from well outside the penalty area. The away side continued to create plenty of chances but the failure to convert any into goals was compounded in the second half when a rare Real Tubber counter attack led to the home side equalising. Despite creating numerous more scoring opportunities the game finished 1-1. It was an impressive run out for the Carrick side, many of whom were making their first competitive appearance for the club. Goalkeeper Killian Gaffey was solid throughout and made a few fine saves, Paul Woods and Kevin Brady were dominant in defence, Oisin Bohan and Diarmuid were impressive in midfield while Adam Reynolds was a constant threat up front. Substitutes Donal Casey and David O’Connell were hugely impressive when introduced. Training continues every Tuesday at 4.45 at the Showgrounds. Training continues on Tuesdays at 4.45pm. On Saturday next, 15 Sept we are at home v Arrow Harps in the Connacht Cup, kick-off 11am. Players to be at pitch at 10.10 sharp. On Thursday, September 20, we are at home to Valley Rovers, kick-off 6.30.
U-13: The U-13s kicked off their new season with a cracking 3-2 victory over Ballisodare United in a repeat of last year’s U12 final. Two og’s and a superb half volley strike from Niall Morahan from 25 yards sealed the victory after coming from 2-1 down with 10 mins remaining. Training Tuesdays at 4.45.
U-15: We played our second league game tonight v Boyle Celtic, away but were very unlucky to come away with a 4-3 defeat. We were 2-0 down after 20 mins but fought back brilliantly to level at half time with goals from Narada Patrasco and Cormac O’Rourke. Boyle went ahead again early in the second half before a splendid chip from Cameron Crossan levelled the game once more. With Carrick pressing forward Boyle were looking for the break and got it when they scored with 10 minutes remaining to win a fantastic and very sporting game of football. It was nice to see the referee complement both teams on fair play. Well done to all the squad. Carrick Town: Sean Cox, Daire Guckian, Hemn Allakarami, Cormac O’Rourke, Brian McElgunn, Oisin Feely, Conor McGoldrick, Eoin McLoughlin, Conor Reynolds, Narada Patrasco, Eoin Lyons. Subs – Jack Healy, Cormac Smith, Hasib Allakarami, Cameron Crossan, Conal Collins. Training continues Thursdays 5 to 6.15pm.
Seniors: The senior team suffered their first defeat of the season losing 2-1 v Glenview Stars who now replace them at the top of the table. Scorer for Carrick was Niall Flanagan. On Sunday next, we are at home to MCR (Sligo). Kick-off 11 am.
Leitrim Villa FC
Leitrim Villa travelled to Easkey Harps in a Cleary Landscapes Division One league match last Sunday morning and suffered a very heavy defeat. In very windy conditions, it was the home side who adapted to the conditions and took an early lead. Three more goals followed before halftime, leaving the halftime score 4-0 in favour of Easkey. Despite having the benefit of a strong breeze, Villa conceded again early in the second half, through a penalty, before Rafa Nazaruk managed to pull a goal back. The comeback was short lived however as Easkey scored a further two goals to leave the final score an embarrassing 7-1 to Easkey Harps; and there is much hard work ahead to turn recent form around. The next game is 11am next Sunday against Merville Utd in Cleveragh Astroturf pitch.
Leitrim Villa team: Kevin McTiernan, Joe Sharkey, Gino McPartland, Sean McGovern, Conor O’Brien, Marcin Komorowski, Niall Beirne, Eunan Treacy, Damien Kiely, Rafa Nazaruk and Niall Maxwell. Sub: Enda Maxwell.
