Abbey Rovers under 10s started their major league campaign last Saturday at Newtown Forbes.
It was Rovers who applied the early pressure and had chances to go ahead. Newtown defended well and midway through the first half caught Rovers on the break and scored to go ahead slightly against the run of play.
The second half again saw constant Rovers pressure and a handball by a Newtown player was given and Shane Smith leveled from the spot. Nick Palmer nearly won it for Rovers with a great effort from outside the area that was tipped over the bar by the Newtown keeper but the score stood at 1-1 at the final whistle.
